In addition to the parades, BBQ’s and slew of preventable drunk driving deaths, this Memorial Day weekend marks the 6th annual Austin Sketch Fest. Produced, booked, and organized by ColdTowne Theater, Austin Sketch Fest features some of the country’s best groups.

Now, far be it from me to make any ill-informed assumptions BUT chances are if you’re reading this you’re probably involved in sketch somehow. GREAT! Why the fuck are you here? Go submit your brilliant idea to the festival. Trust me. We want to see it. However, in saying that, if you do find yourself on the fence about submitting here are (6)9 reasons (heh heh heh) why you should:

1. It’s Cheap AF!

Seriously, in comparison to other festivals, it cost next to nothing. $20. That’s it. The fuck else are you gonna spend that money on? Come at me bro.

2. A Safe Space

If you’re wondering whether or not your material is “too weird” or “out there” for the festival. you shouldn’t be. ASF is a DIY outfit that prides itself on being a place that nurtures and fosters experimentation. We’re not beholden to any specific sketch format. Curating a strong, diverse festival is priority number one. JUST FUCKING DO IT ALREADY! Come at me bro.

3. A Guaranteed Audience For Your Material

News flash: Your great ideas mean fuck all if you don’t share them with anyone. Playing the festival is a great way for your stuff to get seen. Our audiences are filled with people who have a sincere appreciation for comedy. Which leads to my next point…

4. It’s A Fast Track To Becoming A Better Writer/Performer

Playing in front of an audience, who “get it” will allow you to see what material works and what doesn’t. You’ll get a better idea of what to tighten, what to cut and how to adjust your performance accordingly.

5. Past Participants

Superego w/ Paul F. Tompkins, Ennis and Kaye (featuring John Ennis from Mr. Show), My Mans, Skinny Bitch Jesus Meeting, Delicious Moments and too many amazing people to name.

6. Networking Opportunities

I know. I know. It’s a dirty dirty word BUT a necessary evil (also an incredible movie BTW). This industry is built on “who you know” and the festival is a great place to connect with likeminded people who share the same fucked up sensibilities you do.

7. The Staff

With a collective experience in sketch, improv, and stand-up spanning a lifetime, the fest is staffed by some of the most amazing people in the Austin comedy scene. Not only do they have your best interest at heart but they sexy AF too.

8. Austin, TX Baby!

In addition to being home to one of the most vibrant comedy scenes in the country, Austin is bursting at the seams with fun shit to do; there’s never a dull moment. And yes – from the food to the parties to the bullet wounds – everything is DEFINITELY bigger in Texas.

9. Because It’s Fun As Shit And You’ll Have The Best Time Of Your Life.

whispers Come at me bro.
