Brent Weinbach is one of our favorite comedians, and we’re super excited to present him as a headlining act at this year’s Austin Sketch Fest.
Brent is best known for his experimental style and abstract, deadpan delivery. Brent was a winner of the Andy Kaufman Award at the HBO Comedy Festival, which is given out once a year to recognize innovation in stand-up comedy. He has appeared on Conan, Lopez Tonight, Comedy Central, HBO Canada, and toured with the Comedians of Comedy.
How did this one-person show come together?
Brent Weinbach: Basically, I was going to do the festival in Edinburgh, where I had never performed before, so I put together pretty much all my best bits from the previous 14 years or so, which I also thought all had a similar theme.
Is your approach to this show different than your regular stand-up?
Brent: No, it’s pretty much the same, with the exception of maybe one or two sentences at the very end.
What makes you laugh the most?
You’ve been to Austin a whole bunch. Do you have a favorite Austin story?
Brent: Once, I went on a bat cruise and was urinated on by bats. But the better part of that day was pretending to be French and sitting on the boat with my pants unbuttoned and unzipped and all opened up, relaxing in such a way that it seemed to everyone else like it was normal for people in France to relax like that on a boat.
Share with us your tips for a job interview.
Brent: You gotta go in there with a six pack, and if you can figure out a way to flash it to the interviewer, you got the job. Interviewers love muscles. It’s all about the way you present yourself and your muscles, and more specifically, your six pack. Also, it can help to uncross your legs every once and a while, especially if you are a man wearing cut off jean shorts or a cut off jean skirt, so that the interviewer can get a good peek at the acorn.
We need to increase the visibility of this article. Any suggestions for a clickbait headline?
Brent: Six ways to impress during a job interview (those six ways being the six pack).
What are you working on now?
Brent: I’m working on that six pack, of course.
Brent Weinbach performs at the Spider House Ballroom Friday Night, May 22nd at 8:30pm with Vanessa Gonzales. TICKETS HERE.
